Beyond Freedom and Liberty League International Helped Me Run First Marathon

That is me after I finished my first full marathon because of the home business I am in Liberty League International and 90 day self discovery journey Beyond Freedom.

I put personal development to the test!

I decided that I was going to run a marathon. I set the goal to run my first marathon in March of 2006. Way before I even started training in October, I decided I was going to sign up to run in the Little Rock Marathon of 26.2 miles and start the training. Now this is not your average marathon. The marathon elite say that this is one of the toughest marathons in the country.

Why on earth would you try to run a marathon, Beau Reed? Well, to see if I could do it. Personal satisfaction. To say I did. To mark off 1 of the 101 things to do. To put my study in personal development with Beyond Freedom from Liberty League International to the absolute test. Because I am in this Home Business and my websites do most of the work for me I have the time to do these types of personal achievements. I downloaded a training guide of the internet and just ran what the guide told me too. The hardest saturday training run I had was a 20 miler in 20 degree weather with the last 10 miles against the wind. That was tough.

After 5 months of training I felt like I could do it. I came into the race feeling good, maybe a little too good as the race would tell.

I took off feeling great- first 6 miles easy, first half mile I felt like I could qualify for the boston marathon. The next 6 miles pretty good. Mile 18 I hit "the wall" you never think you know what this feels like until you have actually hit it.

Ok- now the real test of character. Now I have run this far in training, but remember the hills in the heart of the dowtown Little Rock neighborhoods. Your facing about a 5 mile up hill run from mile 13 to mile 18. Yes Up hill for 5 miles. I thought I was going to die. I had run way too fast for myself the first 16 or so miles. I completely hit a wall and had to start walking. I literally felt like I was carrying another person and I had another 8 miles to go. I now go to a half run half walk program with some other guys who hit the same wall. At this point Old lady's are passing me saying "didnt you know son the race starts at mile 20." No I didnt realize that- thank you very much . My right schin feels like someone is hitting me with a sledge hammer everytime I land on it. I dont know, but It was brutal. I felt horrible,like I could collapse anytime. I just kept saying in the back of my mind this will be over soon and you cant let the governer Mike Huckabee pass you. Just keep going. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. So I kept up the run walk pace from mile 18 to mile 24. Then it was oh my gosh am I going to live? I could collapse right now, but I kept going and kept going out just sheer desire and determination to finish. Yes I said to myself there is the last hill. It was not far to go. I found some energy and made it up the hill- then I said to myslef only two blocks to go the mile 25 sign was right back there. So I thought, well I am going to pick up the pace and look good going into the finish line. I start passing people and feel a little adrenaline rush for a bit- I just had it in my mind that we were going to go strait and turn on capitol. Well, I was totally wrong, another full 4 blocks to go around. The adrenaline was gone. I had to walk again I wasted too much energy. Run walk- run walk, limp, hands on the knees. Run walk- run walk, limp, hands on the knees wheeze, crawl. The last 2 tenths of a mile were absolutely the worst 5 minutes of my life.

Then there it was! Yes the crowd- my family. The music. The announcer anounced my name from the number on my jersey. Awe pure satisfaction!! I did it- I accomplished this feat! What a day. I have finished! I just finished my first and probably last marathon in 4 hours and like 18 minutes. I beat Mike Huckabee and finished. Everyone was there to greet me, and I felt like I was setting an example for my family for what you can do if you set your mind to something. I felt like a hero. Even though in large scheme of things, this is not really a big deal. It was a huge deal to me and my family and a statement in my life that I can achieve anything I want to.

What is the lesson? You can do anything you put your mind too. I had never run a marathon before, but I put my mind to it and made it happen. Even though my body had absolutely nothing left from mile 18 to mile 26.2 my mind just would not let me quit. I had trained for this and said I am going to finish it and so I did no matter how bad it hurt.

Just do it.
